HOLLAND, New York (July 16, 2016) – Shawn Nye from Lancaster, NY scored the Mid-Season Championship for the NYPA TQ Midgets on Coca-Cola and Dunkin Donuts Hometown Heroes Night at Holland International Speedway. Zach Myers from East Concord and Dave Vona from East Aurora scored the victories in the twin 25 lap features for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers. Kenny Hejna from Buffalo, NY won the Bank of Holland Hornet feature. Brandon DeBrakeleer from Mill Village, Pennsylvania won his third Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends feature of the season. Dale Lombardo scored his second win of the season in the Rookie 4’s. Sharon Hughes from Holland, NY won her first M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 car feature in several seasons.

In the first Getzoni Agency NASCAR Pro Charger feature event, Rich Carnes jumped into the early race lead, with Max Northem and Dave Vona giving chase. The lead trio pulled away from the rest of the field in the early stages of the feature event. As the race neared the halfway point, Carnes, Northem and Vona all made contact down the front straightaway with Carnes and Northem heading towards the turn one wall and Carnes landed on his side after his car landed on top of the turn one wall. Carnes and Northem both climbed out of their racers under their own power with Vona being the only one able to continue in the feature event. With Vona having to go to the rear of the field for his involvement in the incident, Zach Myers and Nik Welshans shared the front row with Myers taking off into the lead. Myers would hold off the constant pressure from Welshans in the remaining circuits to score his third win of the season.

In the nightcap, Josh Hathaway had the lead by the end of the first lap, just as Dave Vona and Zach Myers working their way up through the field. Vona would take the lead from Hathaway on lap three and began to pull away from the rest of the field. Myers would take second away from Hathaway on lap eight and began his quest to reel in the race leader Dave Vona. Vona, pulled away from the field to score the win, his first career Holland Charger triumph.

Shawn Nye would take the lead on the opening circuit in the 20 lap feature for the NYPA TQ Midgets. Kyle Hutchinson and Dave Wollaber started their trek to the front and by lap two, Hutchinson was third with Wollaber running in sixth. Andy Patton would flip down the backstretch to bring out the red flag on lap three. Patton would drive his car back to the pit area under his own power. On the restart, Nye would stretch his lead as Hutchinson would take second and Wollaber would move into third. Wollaber would make his move past Hutchinson with six laps remaining to take over second place. Wollaber would challenge Nye in the remaining six circuits but Nye was too tough on this night as he would go on to score the victory.

Kenny “Hot Hands” Hejna used an outside pole starting position to his advantage as he would take off into the lead from the drop of the green flag in the feature event for the Bank of Holland Hornets. With Hejna pulling away from the field, defending track champion Jeff Szafraniec and Josh Hill battled for second place for several circuits. Hejna would pull away from the field to score the win, his first of the season. Szafraniec, Hill and Butcher Palmer would complete the top four.

Brandon DeBrakeleer would pass Carl Vilardo IV on lap seven to take the lead away in the Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends feature event. DeBrakeleer would pull away to score the win, his third of the season on the historic Holland Highbanks.

Sharon Hughes would make a return to victory lane in the wild and wooly M&M U Pull-It Figure 8 car feature event. Jim Steins would lead early on but would make contact with a lap car and he would end up on top of an implement wall. Hughes would pull away from Don Haskell to pick up the popular win.

Dale Lombardo dominated the Rookie 4 feature. Lombardo would take the lead on lap three from Brian Erler and would never look back as he would go on to collect the checkered flag.

NEWS AND NOTES: It was the first Dunkin Donuts Hometown Heroes Night for the drivers that live in Alden, East Aurora, Lancaster, Orchard Park, West Falls and Varysburg. NYPA TQ Midget driver Greg Richardson had a hard hit into the wall during the afternoon practice session. Richardson was unhurt in the incident but was unable to compete in the racing program. Rich Carnes was able to make the start of the second twin 25 feature for the Chargers after climbing on top of the turn one wall in the first 25 lap feature.
