King, Jankowiak, Kosmowski, Lutz, Adams Take August 20th Wins

Eldon King III of Freedom, NY added to his Late Model points lead at the Holland Motorsports Complex on Saturday evening, August 20th, by claiming his fifth win of the season at the Western New York oval, while Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, NY earned his second straight Casey’s TQ Midget Series feature win. The posting of the official finishing order of the National Overhead Door NASCAR Pro Modified main is being delayed pending technical consultation. (Note - Tuesday, August 23rd - after consultation and review, the Pro Modified results were official in the order as they crossed the finish line.)

In other Holland action, past champ Jerry Kosmowski of Buffalo, NY rolled to his first Bank of Holland Charger feature win of the year, while Samantha Lutz of Buffalo continued her string of top four finishes with her first 4-cylinder Hornet victory of the season. Points leader Jason Adams of East Aurora, NY padded his M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car points lead with his sixth win of the summer.

Jeff Ruddy led the first 20 circuits of the National Overhead Door NASCAR Pro Modified feature race, but after the only yellow flag interruption of the event (for a Dave Johnson spin), surrendered the top slot on the restart to Amy Catalano. Two laps later, Andy Jankowiak slipped by Ruddy into second place, as the top two in points were now one-and-two on the track. Jankowiak was unable to make up ground on Catalano, and at the lap 30 checkers, Catalano was first across the line, with Jankowiak chasing. Kirk Totten and Mike Fiebelkorn, Jr. had a side-by-side battle for third over the final four laps, with Totten edging Fiebelkorn at the line for the number three slot.

Eldon King III patiently worked his D&H Excavating mount forward from his fifth starting spot in the 25 lap Late Model main, taking third from Brandon Glover on lap 11, racing under Mike Ticco for second on lap 14, then finding room underneath Sean Dolan to grab the lead on lap 18. King then rolled away for the victory in the caution-free event. Veteran driver Troy Williams, substituting for the injured John McClurg, drove a solid race to place second, while Glover snared third. Dolan, who lead the first 17 go-rounds, finished fourth.

The start of the Casey’s TQ Midget Series main was interrupted by a five car scramble which resulted in Ryan Hessler barrel rolling his machine down the back chute - Hessler emerged uninjured. Both Andy Jankowiak and Camden Barber were involved in the fracas, and both were forced pitside for some quick repairs. On the restart, Jankowiak found an opening on the top side, and blasted his Englewood Collision entry around most of the field to be in the top five by the second lap, and by the fourth circuit, found room again to the outside to steal the lead from Arik McGruder. Barber was also working his way back through the pack, with a lap six restart proving helpful in his staying in touch with the leaders. Barber and Owen Bednasz then began to trade second and third over the duration, and though within reasonable distance of the lead, neither was able to mount a serious challenge to Jankowiak. At the lap 20 checkers, Jankowiak held a five car length lead for his third TQ Midget win of the year. Barber held off Bednasz for second, while McGruder edged series points leader Justin Mapes for the number four slot.

Jerry Kosmowski raced his Delavan Auto Parts/Lincoln Park Nursery Monte Carlo under Mark Harsch for the lead in the 30 lap Bank of Holland Charger main and began to open up a lead cushion. Kosmowski was able to take full advantage of a lap 16 incident when the race for second behind him became too tight and Harsch, Tom Northem, and Jim Loffredo all made contact - the situation did not precipitate a yellow flag, but it slowed the pack enough so that Kosmowski was able to sprint away to a half-lap lead, which he enjoyed to the finish. Ted "Big Show" Welshans, coming off a feature win a week earlier, motored his way from his 13th starting spot to claim a distant second, while Tommy Catalano took third, and Rich Carnes recovered from an early race spin to finish fourth.

Brothers Lou and Dylan Carbone were battling for the lead in the 30 lap 4-cylinder Hornet main, when Samantha Lutz interrupted the family gathering. Lutz slipped her Dice Racing/Pizza Express Honda under Dylan Carbone for top spot on lap 14, then was immediately pressured by Dice Racing teammate Ben Russo and points leader Eric Brown. However, Russo and Brown made contact on the 17th lap, allowing Lutz to race away to a sizeable lead. Cousins Chris Powers and Tony Carbone took up the pursuit of Lutz, but their chase was slowed by some lapped traffic issues, and Samantha was able to enjoy a ½ straight lead advantage as the checkers. Powers, the feature winner a week earlier, placed second, just ahead of Tony Carbone, with Jeff Szafraniec and Dylan Carbone completing the top five.

Jason Adams was able to squeeze his Full Trottle Racing/Double T Painting entry by Bill Lutz on the initial lap, then raced away for the win in the caution-free 12 lap M&M U-Pull-It Figure 8 Car main. Lutz held on for second, while the Marzec Brothers, Bob and Eric, claimed positions three and four.
