The McClurg Auto Group NASCAR Late Model Division Season 5

May 14, 2012 at 1:31 PM

Since the division began in 2008 there have been many who have put in their time, effort, and money into launching the weekly asphalt late model division, including the teams themselves. At this time we’d like to acknowledge some of our supporters. Family owned Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex, entering their 53rd season of racing deserves much appreciation for their commitment to the division. When the division began the track stated that they would provide the race dates and weekly purse on a trial basis of 3 years. They have gone above and beyond by extending the relationship into the fifth season, which officially begins Sunday, May 20, with afternoon racing presented by the McKinley Mall.

In addition to the support of the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex we are pleased to announce that McClurg Auto Group has agreed to a three year commitment to the division.

Mighty Taco, a large supporter of local organizations and events has renewed their commitment which is now entering their 4thseason with the division. Other supporters who have renewed are Trank Insurance and Emerling Chevrolet. Troy Williams Signs is a new sponsor for the division in 2012.

The teams and their families also deserve recognition; they’ve spent the offseason working hard to finally hit the track on May 20th. The division began with an emphasis on affordability, which meant creating a rulebook that was favorable to new teams and after 4 seasons of competition we’ve seen over half of our teams come from lower divisions. Although the learning curve is challenging for those new to late models, progress would be even more challenging had the cost of competing weekly not been a priority from the onset. It is because of Holland Speedway, our sponsors, and our teams that we’re able to expand what the division has to offer.

New to the division this year will be three 50 lap events. The purses for the events have been raised to $1,000 to win. Funding for the increased purses will be provided by Auto Wrench Connection, Boston Deli, and MAT Service. Additional sponsorship for any of the events including bonus awards such as highest rookie finish, last car on the lead lap, most laps led etc. will be accepted up until the individual race dates.

With the inception of three 50 lap special events to the schedule (June 2nd, August 11th, and September 1st) a Triple Crown Award will go to the team that accumulates the most points in the three events. Mini point standings will be listed exclusively for any team competing in any of the events under the full season standings. The Triple Crown Award and separate point standings will allow full and part-time teams to compete for a title alongside the season championship. It will also allow teams to see how they perform exclusively in the extra distance races throughout the year as the division transitions to a more diverse event schedule. The achievement will be based on points only. Non-point based achievement awards will continue to be awarded by Holland Speedway.

There have been some minor adjustments during the offseason, but the foundation of the division, which begins with the rulebook, including the GM 602 crate engine, $115 Bilstein shocks, and Goodyear tires has remained consistent. Feedback is encouraged from not just our teams but from anyone in the racing community. Some suggestions provided over the years have been incorporated into various aspects of the division, including ideas for promotional opportunities or changes to the rules. They can even be done anonymously by visiting http://www.lamotracing.com/feedbackform.htm to send your feedback. Also, anyone wishing to buy, sell, trade, rent, run or talk late models can contact us by phone, email, or visit us during the season at the Holland NASCAR Motorsports Complex.
