Catalano, Glover, Northem, Szafraniec, Hutchinson, Haudricourt, Adams and Phillips Crowned 2015 Holland Track Champions

Third generation superstar Jimmy Zacharias from Candor, NY picked up the victory in the main event for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Pro Modifieds on Season Championship Night presented by Martin Bros Chevrolet at the Holland Motorsports Complex on Saturday evening. While Zacharias was celebrating a race win, Ontario, NY’s Tommy Catalano won his first career Holland Pro Modified championship. Brandon Glover from Cuba, NY won his third Seneca Niagara Casino Late Model feature of the season and clinched the track championship in the process. Eric Brown from Holland, NY won the main event for the Bank of Holland Chargers while Alden, NY pilot Tom Northem collected the track championship. Jeff Szafraniec from Buffalo, NY won his fourth Hornet feature of the season and would earn the track title. Dave Wollaber from North Tonawanda, NY won the main event for the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets while Kyle Hutchinson from East Aurora, NY was crowned the 2015 Holland track champion. Brandon DeBrakeleer from Mill Village, Pennsylvania won the main event for the INEX Legends while Bliss, NY pilot Jeremy Haudricourt was the 2015 track champion. Jason Adams from Glenwood, NY earned the victory and the 2015 track championship in the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s. DJ Phillips from Angola, NY won his fifth Future 4 feature of the season and clinched the divisional crown.


Tommy Catalano and Jimmy Zacharias led the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency Pro Modifieds to the green flag with Catalano showing the way. Tim Nies made contact with the back stretch wall on the start with Randy Jazembeck and Jake Rought also getting involved. The lap one restart would see Zacharias jump into the lead with Fiebelkorn moving into second with Catalano holding off his mom Amy for third place. Zacharias and Fiebelkorn would pull away from the Catalano family. The caution would come out for Jeff Ruddy after hitting the front stretch wall on lap nine. The restart would see Zacharias and Fiebelkorn on the front row with Zacharias continuing to lead with Fiebelkorn and Tommy Catalano running in the top three. The battle was on for fourth as Amy Catalano was holding off challenges from Shawn Nye. Nye would complete the pass at the halfway mark to take over fourth place from Amy Catalano. Tommy Rought spun in turn four to bring out the caution on lap 29. 


Eric Brown and Brandon Glover led the Seneca Niagara Casino Late Models to the green flag for their 20 lap feature event with Glover showing the way. Troy Williams would pass Brown for second off an early race restart. Brown would try to reel in Williams for most of the feature event while Glover starting to open up his advantage over the rest of the field. Glover would open up the lead and pull away from Williams and Brown to pick up the win and clinch the track title, his first of his racing career.


Tom Northem and Kris Hamann led the field of Bank of Holland Chargers to the green flag with Northem showing the way. Brown worked his way to second. Eric Brown would take over the lead prior to the halfway point. With Brown up front, Northem was holding off the challenges of past divisional champion Jim Loffredo, Kris Hamann and Ken Maltby throughout the feature event. Brown would pull away to pick up the victory, while Northem celebrated with his second Bank of Holland Charger championship.

Dice Racing teammates Jeff Szafraniec and Ben Russo shared the front row for the 25 lap Hornet season championship event and it was Russo out-sprinting Szafraniec to take over the lead. Szafraniec would take over the lead on lap six and Timmy Catalano would pass Russo to take over second. The first caution of the race came out on lap seven for Bob Bogner who had motor issues and laid some fluid on the track. The lap seven restart would see Szafraniec and Catalano battle for the lead with George Anthony passing Russo to take over third while Josh Hill passed Michele Maltby to take over fifth. Hill would continue his trek to the front as he passed Anthony for fourth and Maltby would pass Anthony for fifth place as Szafraniec would clear Catalano for the lead. Bob Palmer’s right front wheel and hit the turn four Armco barrier. Palmer climbed out of his car under his own power. The mid-race restart would see Szafraniec and Catalano continue their battle for the lead as Josh Hill would move up to third. Catalano would take over the lead with ten laps remaining, but lost the lead back to Szafraniec just one lap later. Szafraniec would pull away from Catalano to score the win and earn the 2015 track championship.

Charlie DiRosa and Vinnie Christiano Jr were on the front row for the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets Holland point’s finale with DiRosa jumping into the lead. AJ Hessler would challenge Christiano for second and would complete the pass coming off of turn four on lap two. Andy Nye would move into third with Dave Wollaber and Owen Bednasz working their way into the top five early on. Wollaber would work his way into second on lap five and would pass DiRosa exiting turn two on the outside groove to take over the lead with Andy Nye running in second and Kyle Hutchinson, Holland and overall series points leader working his way into third after Andy Nye showering sparks off the rear end of the Nye 66 entry. With Wollaber in command of the field at the halfway point, Hutchinson would move into second with Shawn Nye running in third. Andy Nye would bring out the caution on lap 14 after coming to a stop going into turn three. The restart saw Wollaber and Hutchinson showing the way with Shawn Nye battling Hutchinson for second. Wollaber would hold off Shawn Nye and Hutchinson to pick up his third win of the season. Hutchinson wrapped up the 2015 track championship.

Jeremy Haudricourt and Matt Mead led the INEX Legends to the green flag with Haudricourt showing the way from the drop of the green. Brad Salatino spun in turn three to bring out the races first caution with just two laps completed. The early restart would see Haudricourt and Brandon DeBrakeleer pull away from Bryce Norton and Matt Mead. DeBrakeleer would pass Haudricourt on lap five to take over the race lead. Carl Vilardo worked his way up through the field as by the midway point, was up to third place Brandon DeBrakeleer would pull away from Haudricourt to pick up the victory, his second win at Holland in 2015.

Jason Adams had to fend off challenges from Don Haskell and Brandon Tessmer after mechanical ailments ailed the racers of Joe Mastrocicco and Bob Bogner to survive the 12 lap championship event for the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s. Adams held off Haskell to score the win, and clinch the track title.

DJ Phillips and Nikki Maltby led the Future 4’s to the green flag for their 12 lap Championship finale with Phillips showing the way. Chuck Kowalske passed Maltby to move into second place on the opening circuit. Maltby hit the turn four wall to bring out the caution with just two laps remaining. Phillips would open up his advantage over the rest of the field off the restart to pick up his fifth win on the season and would clinch the divisional title.

News and Notes: To make a correction in the results of the Pro Modified feature on August 22nd, Gerald Brzezowski was behind the wheel of the #95 car that Andy Nye was originally scheduled to drive. The 2015 Holland Motorsports Complex Night of Champions Awards Banquet will take place on Friday November 6 at the Millennium Hotel on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga, NY. The Holland Motorsports Complex is participating with Ingersoll Rand’s promotion involving the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Home Tracks. Next Saturday night will wrap up the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing program at Holland with the running of the Yuengling Light 100 for the Pro Modifieds presented by the Upstate Automotive Group. Fans are encouraged to pick up their discounted admission tickets for the Yuengling Light 100 at participating Upstate Automotive Group locations. The Pro Modifieds will be joined by the Late Models, Chargers, Hornets, NYPA TQ Midgets and the INEX Legends in a Regional Qualifier. Pit gates will open at 2:30 pm with grandstand gates opening at 4:45 pm. Racing will get underway at 5:00pm with feature racing immediately following qualifying heats. In just two weeks, September 12th will see the second show
