MEDIA RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6-4-16 HOLLAND INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

ERIC BROWN SWEEPS GETZONI AGENCY PRO CHARGERS TWIN 25’s ON HOLLAND’S 57th SEASON OPENER

HOLLAND, New York (June 4, 2016) – Holland International Speedway opened up for the first time in 2016 this past Saturday night as the Eastern Hills Mall, Coca-Cola, and The Bank of Holland presented the racing program to kick off the 57th season at the historic Southern Erie County facility. Holland, NY driver Eric Brown swept both ends of the twin features for the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance NASCAR Pro Chargers. Jeff Szafraniec from Buffalo, NY won the Bank of Holland Hornets feature. Brandon DeBrakeleer from Mill Village, Pennsylvania won the Advance Auto Parts  INEX Legends feature. Dave Wollaber from North Tonawanda, NY won the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets feature. Don Haskell from Gowanda, NY won the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s. Second generation driver Anton Anderson III from West Seneca, NY won the main event for the Rookie 4’s.

Nik Welshans and Max Northem led the field of Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers to the start of their first of two twin 25 feature events and it was Northem jumping out into the lead. Eric Brown started making his way to the front as he moved into third on lap three and then passed pole sitter Welshans for second on lap seven. Max Northem would continue to show the way up front with Brown starting to challenge him for much of the feature distance. Brown would be able to use the bottom groove to pass Northem for the lead with two laps remaining and wouldn’t look back as he was able to pick up the win. Northem would cross the line in second but failed post race inspection. Dave Vona, Ted Welshans, Tom Northem and Zach Myers would complete the top five following post race inspection.

In the nightcap, past divisional champion Rob Miszczak set the pace early on. Brown would start tenth in the second feature and was already up to fifth place by lap four. Zach Myers would take the lead away from Miszczak with Eric Brown passing Jerry Kosmowski for third place by the halfway point. Brown would pass Miszczak for second and then would go to work on Myers for the lead. Brown would pass Myers with less than ten laps to go and would hold off defending track champion Tom Northem and Myers in the closing stages to pick up his second win on the night. Northem, Myers, Dave Vona and Rich Carnes would complete the top five.

Jeff Szafraniec would lead all the circuits to pick up the victory in the main event for the Bank of Holland Hornets. Szafraniec would be challenged by Josh Hill for much of the feature event that saw Don Haskell and George Anthony run strong throughout the event. John Blinston would bring out the races lone caution on lap 19 as he slowed on the back stretch. Szafraniec would pull away off the restart and would hold off Hill’s late race charge to pick up the win.

Anthony Riforgiato led the opening circuits in the 20 lap feature event for the Advance Auto Parts INEX Legends. Bryce Norton would take over the lead on lap five as Brandon DeBrakeleer would work from his seventh starting position and was already up to third by lap seven. Then DeBrakeleer would pass both Riforgiato and Norton and would take the lead on lap 10. DeBrakeleer would hold off Carl Vilardo and Norton to score the win.

Kyle Hutchinson and Dave Wollaber would battle for the lead for much of the 20 lap feature event for the Jerry Gradl Motors NYPA TQ Midgets on Saturday night. Hutchinson would get the lead early from pole sitter Charlie DiRosa after DiRosa went to the infield with a broken suspension. AJ Hessler would challenge Hutchinson early on until Wollaber was able to work his way through the field from his sixth starting spot to move into second place. Wollaber would pass Hutchinson for the lead on lap 15, just after the leaders encountered lap traffic. Wollaber would hold off Hutchinson to pick up the win. Andy Nye, Shawn Nye and AJ Hessler would complete the top five.

Sharon Hughes made her return to the driving wars in the M&M U Pull-It Figure 8’s as she took the early lead in the feature event. Don Haskell raced his way to the lead prior to the halfway point. Haskell would out-race Hughes to pick up the victory. New comers Dan Sharf, James Stendts, and Tyler Pastorious would complete the field.

The Rookie 4’s, the entry level division for pure racing rookies was brought to the green flag by second generation driver Anton Anderson III and Darryl Phillips. Anderson would lead all 12 laps to pick up the win, as Phillips would close in late but couldn’t get around the young competitor, settling for second place.
